Ele vs. Sin. vs Ritualist vs Derv...?
Well, as of now, I have a level 20 Derv/Monk... He can not farm as much as I thought, and I find him to be rather weak... I want to make a character to go through EotN with, but I am not sure if my Dervish is worth it... I hear they will get an update, but will the update really make them good? I want to make a good overall PvE character, and I heard Ritualists are really good. But, will they get nerfed soon? Also, are Ele's good? Good at farming, PvE, etc? I have a level 16 Ele/Mesmer I could go to. Also, is a sin that bad? I hear people say they are awful now, but I also hear some brag about how good they are..? What's a good character? Please help me out, I really like my Dervish, but I don't think he can pull through everything and farm. I really want to get an elite set for him, but I don't see that happening due to me having 6k... haha. What do you guys think? Thank you very much!

My opinion is...do what is funny for you. Even if classes aren't balanced you can beat the game with any of them, but what's the purpose in playing a powerful but boring class?
Anyway, in sum: Dervs: we don't know how the update is gonna be, just crossing fingers Ritus: they're very strong (so they say, I can't manage to make mine stronger cause spirits etc get me bored) Eles: not much experience myself, but I'm hearing a lot of people complaining about them lately, and they're not-armor-ignoring-damage is poor for HM Sins: yeah, overpowered I'd say...but it's all a game of pressing 123 with them Apart from those, warriors are always strong, mesmers are now seeing their shining glory and the other ones....well, as usual |

Ok firstly you will get probably 9 or 10 sets of answers - each saying a diff profession is gd.
Sins are no way bad - this was mentioned before in a totally different post and general replies said sins are still usefull, One of my main chrs is a sin - she prefers scythe sin build as its a gd all round build that doesnt rely on chain attacks , other will say dagger sins are gd also. End of the day depends only on what you the player feel comfortable with - ive done campaigns on ele, rit,me,war and sin and tbh each was diff style of play.Wife uses only ele in pve and has also done all campaigns which also shows its up to you. Take a good look around the farming section and on pvx wiki and see what farms you can do but pick ones which have been around long time and not part of a quick passing fad ( ie one thats gonna be nerfed if xx skills nerfed ) .I have small farms which i can do on multiple chrs , when sf got nerfed i lost a few farms i enjoyed but i also found some replacement farms to take over. Btw dont bother getting an elite set for farming untill you`ve farmed for a bit and decided on what farm to do - reason is ... 1k armor does the job same as an elite armor set but cheaper price and if you like the farm then setup new armor.Nothing worse than buying armor for a build then paying more because you disliked the farm and changed and needed armor setup change. I hope this advice helps but its really the only gd advice i can give. |

I wouldnt give up on your Derv just yet; there is an updated headed their way. Also, you made it /Mo...
D/Mo = Damage vacuum D/W = How you play a derv Offrant: Did you seriously create your derv off the farming pretense? Bad move. Last edited by vamp08; Jun 30, 2010 at 07:21 PM // 19:21.. |

Eles usually play as ERs in high end instead of doing what they were designed to.
Rits are extremely OP and mindless. Sins are extremely OP and mindless. Dervs are borderline useless as of now, but will probably end up being extremely OP and mindless after the incoming buff. That may sound cynical, but based on the past buffs (and lack of nerfs) for things like SF, spirits, Channeling, and dagger attacks, expecting a well-balanced update would be somewhat foolish (though the Mesmer buff was done well, IMO). Also, Anet has a system where they lolbuff one skill or concept to god-like status (DwG, for example) and then leave it OP for a year or four (SF) because people find that fun, apparantly. Sorry for the rant. Anyways, I recommend keeping your derv, at least until after the update. |

If you want to play much with Heroes/Henchmen a physical class (warrior, ranger, assassin, dervish, paragon) is a good choice. Physicals are by far the best damage dealers in GW, and heroes cannot use them well, so if you play casters you'll sometimes face hard times because your team doesn't deal the insane amounts of damage a team with a human physical is capable of.
If you want to participate in PvE endgame farmruns look up what classes are currently used in those team builds. Eles are good if you don't try to use them as something they were never meant to be (hint: damage dealer). Sins are awesome in pretty much every aspect of PvE, but imo also very boring to play. Dervishes are also powerful in PvE, but outperformed by other classes. Rits aren't very strong, but it's very easy to perform very well with them. People do not begin a game with knowledge of what is good and what isn't. Go whip out your e-peen else where, no need to look down upon others simply because they lack experience. Bad move.

Ontopic: There is no short answer to this, I would just play the game and not be afraid to roll up additional toons to see what its like from a different prof's perspective. You can try PvX (GW build database) but if your new to the game all the different builds and farm locations available might be a bit too much to take in and fully understand. Play through the game on your derv, if your not enjoying it at some point, try another primary profession. Personally I switched my main characters several times for a variety of reasons. Use the official (or unofficial, it makes no difference) wiki for Guild Wars and browse through the professions, the armor, the skills etc, see what strikes you as something you would enjoy playing and play it! Your way too new to the game to worry about what is the best, you'll find out yourself. |

PuG mentality:
Eles are awesome nukers Sins are useless, get a War instead Rits are only useful for SoS, and there cannot be more than one Rit per party Dervs are useless, get a War instead |

try playing them all. everyone has their own opinions of each profession. i enjoy a Sin more then the warrior or dervish and i dont use wiki builds and never did any UWSC with my sin. as for casters, i favor my mesmer more then my ele and have for over 4 years. a Rit is fun at the moment but ive liked my Rit since factions release and before the latest buffs. after taking one of each profession through tyria, cantha and elona, my least favorites are the necro, warrior, dervish and paragon.

It takes no time to level to 20, make them all and see what you like the best.
Personally I currently like my rather easymode rit spirit spammer, when playing with H/H it gives me a lot of time to micro my heroes. |

But anyway, you just may not be able to farm what you want with a particular char. I have one of each for just that reason. Certain chars are better than others for any particular farm. Example: Can you solo farm raptors with a monk? Probably. Is it more efficient than a W/N? No. You should have more than 2 character slots. Make a few different ones and see what works best for what you want to do. And don't worry about possible nerfs down the road...just enjoy what's working now. |
